Today is the day of Tim Maia, an irreverent figure in our culture. There must not be a single Brazilian who never danced to the sound of the master of Brazilian soul! We invited director and producer Flavio Tambellini to share some words about the process of the documentary he shot in 1987 with Tim Maia:

“When I made Tim’s short film, he was reclusive, wouldn’t talk to the press and had an impenetrable private life. Through mutual friends I managed to get in touch with Tim and befriend him. We filmed one week over a period of six months.

Tim had extraordinary talent and shook Brazilian popular music with his soulful, but profoundly Brazilian swing. He wrote landmark classics.

A controversial, bipolar figure, but without a doubt a genius ahead of his time.

The short is Tim's only filmed record and I am very proud to be the producer and director.”
